I’m the creative baker and heart behind Buttercream by Kim, a licensed cottage bakery located in Upland, California. My passion for baking has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I still vividly recall begging my parents to let me take cake decorating classes at Michaels when I was around 9 or 10 years old!
During high school, I explored baking everything from cookies to cakes, but it wasn't until I was 19 that I crafted my first decorated cake for my best friend’s baby shower. While that cake wasn’t my finest work, it ignited a passion in me that has only grown stronger. I immersed myself in learning, spending countless hours watching YouTube tutorials and honing my skills.
I began my baking journey creating fondant-covered and novelty cakes—think Nike sneakers in cake form—before discovering my true love: buttercream cakes. Now, I specialize in modern buttercream cakes embellished with fresh florals, elegant acrylic toppers, and occasional fondant accents. Whether you desire something chic and refined or fun and themed, I love bringing your custom cake vision to life.
After more than a decade refining my skills, I officially launched Buttercream by Kim in 2022 as a licensed and insured cottage bakery. For three years, I balanced my passion for baking with a full-time office job, until 2025 when I took the exciting leap to pursue my baking dreams full time.
Creating cakes that not only look stunning but also leave a lasting impression with every bite brings me immense joy. I’m honored to be part of so many milestones and celebrations, and nothing makes me happier than seeing my returning clients trust me again and again.
Fun fact: Even though I’m a baker, I actually don’t have a sweet tooth! I typically prefer savory snacks over a slice of cake, but I do enjoy my buttercream cakes. They aren’t overly sweet, and the silky smooth Swiss meringue buttercream I use strikes just the right balance, making it perfect even for those who usually shy away from desserts.
